Product Designer Translations

Product Designer Translations

Overview

Product Designer text falls into two groups. Built-in editor strings cover standard UI customers see throughout the editor — feature tab names, toolbar tools, zoom controls, layer buttons, modals, and similar chrome. Your designer labels are text you set in Step 5 — Save and Done buttons, comment fields, and Image Upload panel copy. When you enable languages on the calculator, both groups appear in your translation table.

Built-in editor strings

These strings power the editor UI customers interact with every session:

  • Top bar and theme toggle
  • Zoom controls and fit actions
  • Toolbar tool names (Ruler, Grid, Undo, Preview, and others)
  • Left sidebar feature tab names (Text, Clipart, Crop, Draw, and others)
  • Layer control buttons (align, nudge, duplicate, delete)
  • Draw tool names, layers panel copy, crop labels
  • Shape picker tools, filter preset tiles, finetune slider labels, frames panel sections and inspector fields
  • Image Upload file list actions (Edit, Rename, View, Remove) and default drop-zone hints
  • Save progress, error messages, and mobile chrome labels (Options, sheet handle, etc.)

When you add a language in Calculator Editor → Optional Features → Languages, Appify CPO seeds built-in designer editor strings for that locale alongside other calculator system strings. Supported languages ship with pre-translated defaults; any missing entry falls back to English. Edit them in All translations — search for editor-related strings or browse the System group.

Built-in strings are not configured in Step 5. They apply to every Product Designer on the calculator regardless of which features you enable.

Your designer labels (Step 5)

These are strings you author per calculator and per editor mode:

What Where you set the default How to translate
Feature sidebar tab names (Text, Clipart, Crop, etc.) Built-in English defaults All translations (System group) — not editable in Step 5
Image Upload drop zone / browse / mask labels Step 5 → Image Upload feature settings Translate icon beside each field
Image Upload file list (Edit, Rename, etc.) Built-in defaults All translations (System group)
Save button (Designer) Gear → Designer tab → Buttons Gear → Translations tab
Comment button + placeholder (Designer) Gear → Designer tab → Buttons Gear → Translations tab
Done button (Image Edit) Gear → Image Edit tab → Buttons Gear → Translations tab
Design review labels + instructions (Review Design, Keep Editing, approval checkbox, Review / Options tabs, Review instructions) Gear → Designer or Image Edit tab → Buttons → Design review workflow Gear → Translations tab (shown when the workflow is enabled)

Translate icons in Step 5

While configuring Image Upload settings, click the translate icon beside drop zone, browse, or add-mask fields to open the inline translation editor for those labels.

Feature sidebar tab names are built-in system strings. Translate them in Optional Features → Languages → All translations, not from the feature panel.

Translations tab (gear icon)

Open the gear icon beside the Designer / Image Edit mode toggle → Storefront editor settingsTranslations tab. This lists Save, Done, comment, and (when enabled) design review strings for both editors. Set the default English text on the Designer or Image Edit tab first, then add locale overrides here.

Each row opens the same inline translation editor used elsewhere in the calculator wizard.

How the two groups work together on the storefront

  1. The customer's Shopify locale picks the active language from your enabled languages list.
  2. Calculator option labels in the right panel use your option translations.
  3. Your Step 5 designer labels (Save, Done, comment, Image Upload copy) override the English defaults you set in Step 5.
  4. Any remaining UI text resolves from built-in editor strings for that locale.

If a translation is missing, Appify CPO falls back to the English default for that string.

Examples

  • French sticker shop — Add French in Languages. Use AI translate all missing to fill built-in editor strings and option labels. In Step 5, set the Save button to "Enregistrer le design", then open the gear Translations tab and add the French Done label for Image Edit ("Terminé").
  • Bilingual photo prints — Feature tabs like Finetune and Filter localize automatically via built-in strings when French is enabled. Translate Image Upload drop-zone copy via each field's translate icon if needed. Zoom and toolbar labels come from the same built-in string set.
