Customer access and layout (editor profiles)

Customer access and layout (editor profiles)

Overview

The editor profile controls how much a customer can change inside the editor and how the design relates to the artboard. You set it in Calculator Editor → Step 5 (Designer) → gear icon → Storefront editor settings → Customer experience, separately for Designer mode and Image Edit mode. For Image Edit framing specifics, see Image Edit mode.

Customer access

Profile What customers can do
Full editing Use every feature you enabled (text, uploads, crop, layers, and so on). Default for most printable products. Capability checkboxes are not shown for this profile.
Product preview The canvas updates live from calculator options and bindings. The Preview toolbar button is hidden because the whole editor is already a preview. Under Customer capabilities, choose which left-rail features customers may still use.
Display only The canvas is read-only — calculator choices fully determine the design. Customers cannot use left-rail tools or select layers.

For Product preview, pan on bound product images is controlled by the Product image binding's placement lock, not the capability checkboxes. This profile is typical for wallpaper — see Wallpaper and product image bindings.

Layout mode

Mode Designer Image Edit
Crop outside image Artboard and design elements are independent (free layout)
Drag image Pan a bound product image inside a fixed artboard (wallpaper-style) Pan the upload inside a fixed frame
Drag selection Move a crop window over a fixed photo

In Designer mode this setting is labeled Layout mode; in Image Edit it is Image framing.

Additional options

  • Image drag axis (Designer, drag image mode) — Restrict pan direction for bound product images.
  • Fit artboard to image on upload (Image Edit) — Size the artboard to the upload once after upload.
  • Write manual artboard size back to calculator — When customers resize the artboard, update bound dimension options. Turn off for binding-only artboards. Not shown when layout mode is Crop outside image.

Validation warnings in this section block Publish and Go live until resolved — for example, Use crop tool enabled without the Crop feature, or roll wallpaper without a print width.

Examples

  • Die-cut stickersFull editing with Crop outside image so customers freely arrange text and clipart and resize the artboard.
  • Made-to-measure wallpaperProduct preview with Drag image, so the wall size follows calculator options and the customer only pans the pattern.
  • Locked proofDisplay only when the design is fully determined by calculator selections and you just want the customer to confirm it.
